The monstera belongs to the arum family, the Arceae, Just like Aglaonemas, Alocasias, Anthuriums, Caladiums, Philodendrons and Syngoniums.

This fantastic species comes from the tropics mainly from South Mexico.

Monsteras wear the nickname 'hole plant', because the holes in the leaf is really the characteristic of this species. Scientists speculate a lot about the reason that holes have grown in the leaves. One of the most common reasoning is that these phenestries ensure that leaves at the bottom of the plant, still catch enough light to make enough energy.
