Syngoniums

Syngoniums

The Syngonium is an easy plant to take care of, which makes it an excellent houseplant for both beginners and advanced plant lovers. With its air-purifying qualities, it is a true addition to any room it is placed in.

Diversity
The Syngonium has a beautiful tropical appearance and comes in many varieties with arrow-shaped and lobed leaves. This plant is native to the topical rainforests of Latin America. It belongs to the Araceae family and has a great diversity of leaf colour and pattern with its many species and sizes. We at Plantique have some of the most special and beautiful specimens in our range for you: Syngonium Red Spot Tricolor, Syngonium Panda, Syngonium Mottled, Syngonium Aurea Yellow Variegated Marble, Syngonium "Milk Confetti" & Syngonium Strawberry Milk (Less Variegata).

Light requirements
Because the Syngonium is native to tropical rainforests, it is used to a lot of light exposure. It prefers a bright spot where it can receive indirect sunlight. Do not place it in direct sunlight, however, as this can cause it to burn. The variegated varieties are particularly sensitive to this. This beauty can also darken in colour when placed in too dark a place.
Since Syngoniums grow towards the light, it is best to turn them a quarter turn every week to prevent them from growing to one side.

Temperature
From its origins the Syngonium is not used to cold temperatures. Therefore it prefers a warm environment with temperatures between 15 and 21°C. The more stable the temperature, the better. The more stable the temperature is, the better your Syngonium will like it. This tropical plant does not like temperatures below 15°C.

Watering
This originally tropical Syngonium likes to stand in well-draining soil. During the growth period the soil should be slightly moist (spring and summer). Make sure that it does not get its feet wet, as this could cause root rot. It also likes to receive some fertilizer during this growth period to support its growth. For this purpose, a little plant food can be added to the water once every fortnight. In autumn and winter it needs less water and the addition of fertiliser should be discontinued.

Air humidity
The ideal air humidity for a Syngonium is between 40 and 50%. Although this plant does not suffer much from lower humidity, it does like some extra moisture in the air because of its tropical roots. This is why this beautiful plant lends itself very well as a terrarium plant. If necessary, you can use a humidifier to increase the humidity.
